Chest of Drawers
To save space and time you can leave certain unbreakable items in drawers
(provided that they are strong enough and the items inside are not too heavy)
Hanging Clothes
Jewellery, Money and documents of value
Keep these items safe and easily accessible.
Televisions
Carefully wrap Televisions in
bubblewrap or original packing
cases
Bookcases and Cabinets
Bookcases should be emptied and the shelves removed.
Collect the shelf fixings and store in a safe place.
Knives and sharp objects
Pack these away sufficiently so that they cannot mark the items that they are next to.
Also ensure that if they are in a box they are not likely to cause harm when opening the box.
China, glass, books, pots and pans, lamps etc.
All these items must be packed in a box sufficiently to allow for their safe removal.
Cartons
Remember... as a rule, any items that can fit in a box should be packed in a box.
Never overfill a carton. The top should be taped down and the contents clearly marked with a
destination room number shown. Bearsby's can supply
cartons,
bubblewrap, tape and packing paper. DO NOT OVERFILL CARTONS OR MAKE THEM TOO HEAVY!
Use original packaging where ever possible.
Microwaves
Remove the glass plate or anything else that could break or damage the microwave. Wrap for transit.
Large Appliances
Disconnect all appliances. It is advisable to do this before the day of removal
as any problems with plumbing etc. are easier to resolve the day before than at
the last minute. Fix the drum in washing machines when possible.
Cupboards
Double check that these have all been emptied.

Armchairs and sofa's
Light fittings
Employ an authorised electrician where necessary to disconnect/remove light fittings
or chandliers. These should then be packed away in
suitable cartons.
Pianos
Piano's are really best left to the experts as they can cause considerable damage to
walls, doorwarys etc not to mention your back! Bearsby's have experience
in moving all types of pianos.
Freezers
Certain types of freezers can be moved with a limited amount of food still inside - it's best
to check with your manufacturer.
Wardrobes
Certain wardrobes are best dismantled as per the manufacturers instructions for their
safety.
Lofts and Attics
Remove goods from loft beforehand. This can be an arduous job and should not be left
until the day of removal.
Plants
This may seem obvious but plant pots should not be watered immediately before removal
as this makes them too heavy to move.
Mowers and machinery
Always empty petrol from mowers. Apart from anything else if you don't and there is a leak it could be
over your favourite piece of furniture.
