Things To Do (Useful Moving Tips)
A Few Weeks Before The Removal Day

Confirm moving date with removal company.

At the earliest date arrange new schools.

Work out budget for new items for your new home and place orders.

Keep note and of promised delivery dates on new items and chase the suppliers regularly to ensure that they will be kept.

Kitchen-start running down the food freezer. If the journey is likely to be a long one arrange to sell or give away frozen foods.

Photograph valuables for insurance purposes.

Buy packing materials and pet carriers.

Advertise items that you want to sell.

Arrange with a charity a date for them to collect what's left.

Make floor plan of new home.

Book hotel accomodation.

Arrange with electricityyh, gas and water companies to read meters on moving dayand if necessary disconnect the supply

Arrange for your telephone company to give you a final bill on moving day and if necessary disconnect and divert calls t your new number.

Arrange with the Royal Mail to redirect your mail.

Arrange cleaning of any rugs or upholstery you are taking with you and the clening of carpets and drapes that are already fitted in the new home.
Arrange to have your car serviced if necessary around the moving date. You don't wan't to break down on moving day!
Arrange to disconnect and re-connect any items you're taking with you and new appliances you may require to be installed, e.g.,
Final Week

Clearly label items not to go.

Confirm dates with the gas fitter, electrician, plumber, etc.

Send out change of address cards.

Obtain new supply of long term medications.

Return library books and videos.

Defrost and clean fridge.

Check on how to operate the heating and hot water system in new house.

Ask the people whose home you're moving into, to leave a local telephone directory along with numbers of reliable handymen and tradesmen.

If your taking drapes with you, dry-clean them and hang them in their wrapping in a wardrobe.

Dry-clean coats, suits, etc.
